The author, Abu Bakr, 'Abdullah bin Muhammad bin 'Ubaid bin Sufyan ibn Abi 'l-Dunya al-Qurashi al-Baghdadi, the freed slave of Banu Umayya, was born in 208 ah. He was a great hadith scholar. He wrote some books and educated more than one of the caliphs' sons like Al-Mu'tadid. Ibn Abi 'l-Dunya died in Jumada al-Ula, 281/182 ah.
The Late Grand Mufti of Pakistan Mufti Muhammad Shafi' born in 1314/1896, graduated in 1336 ah. In 1951 he established a seminary Darul Uloom at Karachi, which is now an center of Islamic learning in Pakistan.
