| This book is a fascinating study of Shaikh-ul-Hind Maulana Mahmud Hasan's role in the freedom movement of India. Apart from from his educational and literary contribution, Shaikh-ul-Hind's contribution to India's freedom movement was very significant. The author of this book while depending on primary sources on the subject, analyses the political activities of Shaikh-ul-Hind in the context of founding of political organisations such as Jamiat al-Ansar Nazarat al-Ma'arif and his diplomatic missions to Afghanistan and Turkey. Furthermore, this book touches upon historical documents like Anwar Name and the Silk handkerchief Movement, which were directed against the tyrannical British rule in India. This book also deals with the role of his disciples like Maulana Obaidullah Sindhi, Maulana Hussain Ahmad Madani and Maulana Gul Aziz etc. in the freedom movement of India. The author Rafiya Nisar (M.Phil in Islamic studies) is currently working as a senior Research fellow at Shah-i-Hamdan Institute of Islamic Studies, University of Kashmir, Srinagar.
